We are officially 2 weeks into the new Flat and we couldn’t be happier! Unboxing is coming along very well, and we are taking our time moving things over from our apartment. When we closed or right before we closed, we gave the 30-day notice that was required to our apartment building in order to cancel our lease. We also had the option to either pay a special fee to end our lease early or we could be essentially held responsible for the lease until a new tenant comes in, but being in San Francisco and kind of with the confidence of the building manager at the apartment building we were staying at, we felt very confident that someone would be able to take the apartment back pretty quickly, so we get to save at least an extra month’s worth of rent, and that'll go towards our brand-new mortgage, woo hoo!
The house has just been really fun. I mean, at over 1,600sq ft, we don't know what to do with ourselves! We are enjoying moving things from our apartment over to the flat, and it is just a hoot anytime we get to unbox something. It's just so satisfying because it really does feel like this is our home! I love just fantasizing and dreaming about the opportunities for each space in our home and how much better we can make it. We’re so excited to have people come over and to try and cater an awesome experience for our guests, but for the time being, we are doing our best to be patient and just put things away, get the apartment cleaned out, and just live here as it is. We really need to focus.
It is so awesome to be able to have a garage, backyard, and really amazing neighbors. We are very fortunate to be on the top floor of a two-unit building. We have amazing views of Sutro Tower from our guest room too! Has anyone ever seen the movie The Room? Well, there's an iconic scene where the main protagonist, Johnny, goes into a flower shop, and that exact flower shop is across the street from where we live!! Can you believe that?? I remember watching that movie in high school and just thinking it was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen, but for some reason, I really liked it. On top of that, my neighbor has the business sign for the flower shop that was in the movie! It's just sitting in our garage. It's so cool to have some kind of movie history be part of our lives now.
We still get to live in our favorite neighborhood close to our favorite park. Everything we love is within walking distance, and the bus lines take us to our other favorite neighborhoods like the Haight or Japantown. We are spoiled with choice. Of course, Moka and Peanut are happy here too. There are plenty of staircases for Peanut, and she is loving the escape routes available to her. Moka is still really close to her favorite grass areas around us, and she is still getting plenty of walks every day. Moka still needs to learn how to get along with the neighbors’ pets, but I have faith that she will get there.
There's so much to come this summer, and we are looking forward to exploring more of Northern California, especially since Ben hasn't had the opportunity to see all the natural sites we have to offer. I can't wait to be able to experience that for his first time, like we still have to see the redwoods and the giant sequoias!!
I'm still getting used to writing these stories, hopefully, this gave you a glimpse into what's going on in Ben and I’s lives. I could really just go on and on about our house, but I feel like that will get boring. Stay tuned for our next story. Peace out!
